Skills Jersey Research

Identifying and evaluating the particular issues that the Jersey labour market faces is critical to developing an effective and lasting skills strategy.

Research has been undertaken looking into issues that affect employers across the Island. This includes:

  • an assessment of the employability skills businesses look for and who is responsible for developing them. The report highlights the importance of 'softer' skills and illustrates that almost all sectors cite literacy, numeracy and communication skills as a clear priority when deciding who to recruit.
  • a report summarising skills issues for employers, training providers, learners and advisors. This includes an assessment of current employment and training trends, as well as highlighting the areas where Skills Jersey need to prioritise resources in the future.

Skills Jersey has also commissioned specific research into the skills needs of key sectors of Jersey's economy. A report on the construction sector has been published, and reports into the retail, hospitality and rural sectors are forthcoming.

Using the information in these reports, Skills Jersey will work with industry to create sector specific skills strategies to address the particular requirements of each sector.
